Obama sworn in as US President

Posted by: Kannan V   in General

An admiring speech, 30 minutes of absolute silence, all eyes glared into the TV screen, havent heard such speeches recently from a politician, some interesting points that caught my attention, the ways with which we deal the problems might be new, the issues might be new, the technologu might be new, but the qualities of honesty, hardwork, tolerance are all old.

He said “challenges we face are real,” and “will not be met easily or in a short span of time” – but he said, “they will be met.”

If things go as per the advocated ideas, a new america and even a new world would be out there for us to enjoy! Only time can answer.

Love god by loving those around us..

Posted by: Kannan V   in Poems, Self Realization

What a meaning these words carry, just understood the depth of these neo-sufi way of realizing god by loving others around you, the more i listen the more bliss i become, Amitabh’s voice has added more emphasis to the verses, its not a song, its more of a Shayari.

Zareee zarree mein usi ka noor hai
Jhakh khud mein woh na tujhse door hai…
Ishq hai usse… TOh… sab se ishq kar,
Ishq hai usse…
TOh… sab se ishq kar,
Iss ibadat ka yahi dastoor hai…

Is mein, uss mein aur… uss mein hai wohi,
Is mein, uss mein aur… uss mein hai wohi,

Yaar mera har taraf bharpur hai…

MOOD : Thankful and bliss

Maestro, Mozart of madras, Thalaa….. and many more

Posted by: Kannan V   in Music

I still remember the day, it was a lovely day, a festive day, lots of snacks and sweets and lights and sound all over the place, yes its diwali day and myself and my friends were very busy out in the streets busting crackers and having fun.

All of a sudden a divine music sounds, that suddenly pulled me with great gravitation, it was not just me, it made heads turn and ears lean over to hear something new, a brand new kind of music that no body has heard till now.

We just ran inside our house to see and hear on Tv this very source of music that’s rhythm to the ears, It was the music from the film “ROJA”, one of my friend chuckled, its some new music director, some guy called A.R.Rahman, it all started that very day, and i haven’t stopped listening to his songs till date.

From then on came so many and the recent offerings being Janee tu, yuvaraaj, Ada, Slumdog and now the latest release being Delhi-6, he says its an experimental music, and it has worked for me, the very first time i listened to it, it became the 6th time, i had to sleep, that was the only reason i had to switch it off, this is one of the very few songs of ARR that i liked the very first time i heard it, strange as it seems, but that’s the truth. The maestro has proved it again, so many different notes, so many layers to the music, and am not sure if i have heard a progressive note from ARR, but this time he has done it.

Arziyan & Genda Phool are addictive
Rehna Tu is pathbreaking
Dil Gira Dafatan is my favourite and the progressive note music

In all am waiting to get home to listen to it again.

Slumdog Millionaire…… the film of the….

Posted by: Kannan V   in Favourites, General

Why did i plan to watch this movie?

A. It has bagged 4 Golden globe nominations

B. Its highly rated

C. Its A.R.Rehmans first Hollywood entry to music bliss

D. All of the above.

You know what my answer would be.. :)

This is one film in the recent years that i enjoyed watching from the first moment to the last Jai Ho song, i normally not into writing movie reviews, but this movie made me write a couple of words about my experience on it. Am not going to write anything about the story here.

Loved how Danny Boyle has directed the movie from the start, a subtle flow intermingled at every serious turn with a comical note that gives you a good laugh, the movie is an actual love story presented to the user in a mumbai slum setting and finally finding his love back again and how he gets to i using the famous TV show Who wants to be a Millionaire.

Normally i watch a movie and it just stays in my mind for some time, but it needs a good deal of effort, screenplay, comedy and other key facts to make in impact that just stays afresh in mind, i wouldnt mind watching the movie again. Adding to all this the music of the film is from the Maestro A.R.Rehman, his first entry into the Hollywood film industry, music gels amazingly well with the film, starting with the O…Saya.. then comes the Riots… and then comes the best of his tracks and my favourite Mausam & Escape.

The music actually flows with every scene of the movie, you just cant visualize how well it mingles with the action on screen and gives you a very pleasant experience, after watching it, am more in love with the music now.

Here is my recent post on the tracks – http://mindwind.vividscapes.com/?p=270

In all its one the movies that should not be missed, so make it your destiny to watch it atleast once :)

Being a little stupid…

Posted by: Kannan V   in General, Ramble

The year 2009 started with a bang, I normally don’t tend to weigh anything towards Good or Bad, afterall Good and bad is what we create based on the past impressions that we have created for ourselves.

This is related to the iPhone story, myself and my friends decided to gift ourselves iPhones for Xmas and found a good deal outside of the current country, ordered a set of phones and got them in time. Amazing phones, no problems at all, the main idea behind this being able to sell them and make a small profit so that our price per phone comes down.

Accepted that its a nice plan, but a little stupid did I become and a small loss on the eBay front, thank God for the lovely set of friends i have, i will call them Kaddu and Pracko, even though we had feelings of a little loss, none of us moaned over it or bragged about it, i have seen people fighting over pennies.

So a lesson learnt on the online market and how to deal, afterall experience is always learnt the hard way!

An amazing and thought provoking Commencement Address at the Harvard university, a bit length but worth a read..

http://harvardmagazine.com/commencement/the-fringe-benefits-failure-the-importance-imagination

Some very powerful words and thoughts

“If you choose to use your status and influence to raise your voice on behalf of those who have no voice; if you choose to identify not only with the powerful, but with the powerless; if you retain the ability to imagine yourself into the lives of those who do not have your advantages, then it will not only be your proud families who celebrate your existence, but thousands and millions of people whose reality you have helped transform for the better. We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.”
